Mexican NGO dedicated to rural sustainable development only in Mexico.Through Scolel'te projects located in the Sierra Madre of Chiapas and Oaxaca, CAMBIO is responsible for establishing and maintaining connection, coordination and organization of field work with small producers involved in the sale of environmental services from carbon capture, watershed protection and biodiversity conservation. Today, Scolel'te is the longest lasting project of ecosystem services in the voluntary carbon market worldwide, was the reference and support for the development of the Plan Vivo System, as well as many other projects throughout the world. Currently over 15 projects are using this system. It also supports small producers to grow different products such as coffee, fruits, flowers and natural fibers sustainably without environmental impact with the idea that marketing will generate additional revenue and better use of their land with the intention of showing real sustainable development. Results till today:
- Currently supports more than 1000 producers organized into 89 working groups, 2,450 families participating.
- Since 1988, has protected and preserved more than 7,500 acres of forest in Chiapas and Oaxaca
- Among the beneficiaries of the program are Chol indigenous groups, Tzeltal, Tojolabales Lacandon, Tzotzil, Zoque from Chiapas and Zapotecs of Oaxaca.
- The program has offseted more than 440,000 tons of carbon by companies, institutions, organizations and individuals interested in mitigating CO2 emissions.
